Cai Guo-Qiang is a very, very interesting artist who uses a variety of mediums but the one that really 'gets' me is the pyrotechnic work he does. Using new and upcoming techniques he creates unique pyrotechnic displays to truly push the limits and create an amazingly exhilarating display.
First is his most recent work "Mystery Circle for MOCA"
This is the produced video
This one shows the side view
This one shows the view I would have liked.
"Talk about taking your life into your own hands... welcome to MOCA"
The terror they must have felt for that split second, they didn't have a clue that it would be exploding directly towards them.
I think this is why I like the work of Cai Guo-Qiang, and any good installation really it isn't about the parts, its about the experience when you put them all together and he does this beautifully.
Next is the ever popular daytime fireworks he did for the Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, Qatar
Next is his work at the Philadelphia Art Musium titled "Fallen Blossoms"
Finally was the first work I have seen by him, the pyrotechnic rainbow.
